Representing the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), Dave McGrath the Regional Operations & Licensing person presented an overview of the latest changes in EEC, through a power point presentation.   He followed up with a lengthy Question & Answer period and there were many questions.
Mr. McGrath was very clear to highlight the distinction between EEC, CPC (Community Partnerships for Children under the Department of Education) and EEA (Early Education for All, proposed legislation.
The area of teacher certification seemed to generate a number of specific questions.   Mr. McGrath was adamant that EEC has not made any decisions about future requirements for degrees for teaching staff.
CPC has accepted The Department of Education Program Standards and Learning Guidelines which currently calls for teachers having  an associates degree by the year 2010 and a bachelor's degree by 2017.
Concern was expressed that discussions need to be held on this subject with those actually providing early education and care in the private sector.
